Tory Lanez is trying to start his own movement! At least, that’s the sentiment presented in an online petition the artist created on Tuesday. His call-to-action is in support of Black men who are entertainers. It seems Tory is trying to protect the opportunities Black men get to perform at major events and festivals. This includes the annual and highly-anticipated Coachella. Tory took to Twitter to announce his new petition.

Tory’s Protection Attempt

“Keep our Black me on Coachella, all festivals and major events,” Tory tweeted along with the petition link. “Sign RT and stand with us.”

He followed up with: “I just made this…because someone has to.”

Apparently, Tory is only seeking 1,000 people to co-sign his message. At the time this article was published, the petition was a little over halfway filled at 557 signatures.

“We are watching the industry and fake cancel culture remove all of our legendary black men , black celebrities and black moguls …..from festivals , from our culture and from our lives  … and it starts with us …. we must make a change .. so we can keep our black men thriving,” Tory wrote under an account listed as ‘Protect Black Men.’

He continued in the petition’s description: “we stood for equal rights of black men 2 years ago with GEORGE FLOYD .. what changed from “then to now” in regards of the protection of BLACK MEN.”

Standing On His Point

These aren’t new thoughts coming from the Canadian rapper. In fact, on Monday night, he let off a few tweets expressing the same concerns. He started with a simple, “protect Black men” tweet before diving in.

“I don’t care what y’all have to say…We are Black men…and we matter…don’t wait till we are all lynched, lied on and character assassinated to realize they have removed all of our legends and role models from the conversation,” Tory tweeted.

Standing On His Point

In the petition’s description, Tory asked potential signees to stop “them” from using a man’s “personal life situations” to judge their art.

“A man is not his craft … and the craft should never be judged by the man” don’t let them use our personal life situations to make fake stories that have been misconstrued to hinder and taint our legacies,” Tory wrote. “STAND FOR US … WE ARE THE BACK BONE OF CULTURE.”

“If we lose this fight we lose the HEAD of the same culture that we have known and loved and OWNED for the last 2000 years … the BLACK MAN NEEDS TO BE PROTECTED . The first step is PROTECTING OUR CULTURE !! HELP US,” Tory wrote.

His petition follows J. Prince’s comment about big names including Kanye West, Drake, Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd. He suggested they boycott the Grammys by arranging a concert of their own during the award show broadcast. Just last week, Kanye was reportedly dropped from performing at the Grammys due to his “concerning online behavior” that led to an already-expired, 24-hour Instagram suspension.
