Come on, Black excellence! Tonight was the 75th Tony Awards, and Jennifer Hudson didn’t walk away empty-handed. The talented singer and actress won a Tony Award as a producer of ‘A Strange Loop’ for best musical, making J. Hud the 17th person to reach EGOT status and the second Black woman. According to La Times, Whoopi Goldberg was the first black woman to win.

According to Variety, the American Idol alum has won an Oscar in the category of best supporting actress for her performance in the 2006 film ‘Dreamgirls.’ In 2017, she received two GRAMMYs for best musical theater album for ‘The Color Purple.’ It didn’t stop there. She won another GRAMMY for best R&B album for her self-titled album in 2009. J. Hud also won a Daytime Emmy for executing producing the VR-animated film ‘Baby Yaga.’ The Chicago native was the biggest winner of the night, she wasn’t the only one.

Legendary actress Phylicia Rashad won a Tony for best featured actress in a play for ‘Skeleton Crew.’ While speaking about her win, she said, “You don’t come to this place alone. You’ve heard others say it tonight, and it’s true. It’s the work of many people. It’s wonderful to present humanity in its fullness and to feel it received.” The play ‘Take Me Out’ also won a Tony Award for best play revival. If you recall, Jesse Williams, one of the play’s actors, went viral after his nudes were leaked in May.
