Young Dolph‘s family is approaching a difficult time in their household–the first anniversary of his passing. On Thursday, his longtime partner Mia Jaye opened up about her challenges since losing Dolph, including parenting their two children.
“This almost year has been the most challenging year I’ve ever had to face in my life,” Mia said in a video posted to Instagram. “And it’s like the closer I get to this year-mark…it’s like trying to be positive about something so messed up, it comes to a breaking point, to where it’s really just unfair.”
Dolph was shot and killed while visiting Makeda’s Homemade Cookies in Memphis on November 17, 2021. On a Wednesday afternoon, multiple shooters sent bullets raining through the bake shop, striking Dolph at least 22 times throughout his upper body and arms. He was 36.

A grand jury indicted the 43-year-old on November 10, and per Action 5 News, Govan is the only suspect facing a conspiracy charge. Hernandez was reportedly in jail for an unrelated June 2021 aggravated assault when Dolph died. But, a conspiracy charge could mean prosecutors have evidence that Hernandez planned Dolph’s murder.
Cornelius Smith, early 30s, and Justin Johnson, early 20s, also face murder and attempted murder charges.

Mia Jaye Says Dolph’s Death Is Unfair To His Family
In her video, Mia explained that she sees and feels the lack of Dolph’s fatherly presence affects their children. At the same time, she understands that they’re also dealing with the pain of losing Dolph.
“And I just get mad, I get so freaking mad, like I get so freaking mad dawg,” Mia tearfully shared. “Why did we have to go through this? Why is this something that my family has to endure, why is this something that my kids have to endure? Because somebody felt that it’d better to just take somebody’s life. And then you get down to the reasoning behind it, it’s never good enough.”
Mia also touched on her ongoing campaign, ‘Black Men Deserve To Grow Old,’ which she launched after losing her brother to violence. She expressed that the deeper she gets into it, the more she wonders if anything will change.
“It’s like me advocating for ‘Black Men Deserve To Grow Old,’ me saying this, it’s like the more I say it, I be asking myself, is this shit gon’ ever change? Like is this just really the way of the world and I be feeling so f**ked up,” Mia said.
