Afroman has announced he is running for U.S. president in 2024 and made it official this week! The rapper filed the documents with the Federal Elections Commission, which are required to run for president in the U.S.
TMZ says the rapper’s presidential committee name is “Joseph Afroman Foreman for President.” Afroman intends to run as an Independent, per the docs.
Though the move may shock some, he initially announced he was joining the race in December. While performing in Missouri, he told the crowd about his plans to take over the White House.
The Before I Got High rapper reportedly plans to tackle the national legalization of marijuana in his election campaign. However, there are no additional details about his campaign or stances on other political issues.
Campaign Manager Asks For Support For ‘Our Cannabis Commander In Chief’
The documents were filed on April 18, two days before the unofficial marijuana holiday known as 4/20, which takes place annually on April 20.
Afroman’s campaign manager Jason Savage told the outlet they’re asking for support as “Afroman takes on this great and worthy cause as our Cannabis Commander in Chief.”
His presidential run comes amid a legal tussle with Ohio Police. Last August, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department entered his home with guns drawn to conduct a search for narcotics. At the time, Afroman was not at his Ohio home but in Chicago.
Following the search, Afroman shared footage of the police search in social media posts and in a music video for Will You Help Me Repair My Door.
In response, seven officers involved in the raid sued the rapper in March for using their likeness and depictions “without the authorization of any of the plaintiffs to do so.” They claim to have “suffered humiliation, ridicule, mental distress, embarrassment and loss of reputation.”
Campaign manager Savage highlighted the ongoing lawsuit while speaking with TMZ.
“Afroman’s ongoing persecution by the overtly corrupt Adams County Sheriff’s Department perfectly highlights that this corruption of leadership has trickled down to law enforcement all across the country. Criminal Justice Reform and Federal Marijuana Legalization remain two of the primary planks in his campaign platform.”
