An NYC driver with 160 violations received nine years in prison Wednesday for hitting and killing a baby in a Brooklyn hit-and-run back in September 2021. Tyrik Mott offered a brief apology described as “emotionless” by New York Post.
“I’m just sorry for everything I did. I’m sorry for all the hurt I caused,” Mott said. “I really didn’t mean it.”
The 30-year-old was sentenced in Brooklyn Supreme Court for the fatal hit-and-run of 3-month-old Apolline Mong Guillemin, the Post reports. The crash also left the girl’s mother, Marion Guillemin, seriously injured.
Mott reportedly pleaded guilty to manslaughter, attempted robbery, reckless driving, and other related charges. However, he has been out on bail since posting a $150,000 bond in February 2022.
Mott was initially facing a prosecution’s recommendation of 15 years. But, he took a plea deal in March that ultimately led to a lighter sentence.
The NYC driver received a plea deal despite having a suspended license and 160 speeding and traffic violations at the time of the deadly crash.

The Crime: Mott Ran Red Light While Driving Wrong Way Before Fleeing Scene
Mott blew through a red light while driving the wrong way down Gates Avenue when he hit another vehicle. Guillemin was pushing her baby in a stroller along the sidewalk when the accident occurred.
He fled the scene and tried to steal another car before being arrested by police officers. Mott allegedly asked officers “if he could just get a ticket,” according to prosecutors.
The block where little Apolline died has since been transformed into a pedestrian plaza named after her: Apolline’s Garden, NY1 reported last year.
