Filmmaker Sophia Nahli Allison Speaks Out About Briefly Working On Lizzo’s Documentary

On Tuesday evening, Sophia Nahli Allison took to her Instagram Story to share her reaction to news of the lawsuit against Lizzo.

“I usually do not comment on anything pop culture related,” she began. “But, in 2019, I traveled a bit with Lizzo to be the director of her documentary. I walked away after about 2 weeks. I was treated with such disrespect by her…”

Allison went on to share that she “witnessed how arrogant, self-centered, and unkind” the singer allegedly is.

“I was not protected and I was thrown into a s****y situation with little support. My spirit said to run as fast as you f*****g can and I’m so grateful I trusted my gut…”

Additionally, Allison explained that she was “deeply hurt” by her alleged experience with the singer. However, reading these new allegations about Lizzo has made her realize “how dangerous of a situation it was.”

“This kind of abuse of power happens far too often,” Allison wrote before ending her post by sending “love and support” to the lawsuit’s plaintiffs.

After sharing her post, Allison then shared another Instagram Story of a woman named Charlene Sanchez, who also worked on the documentary alongside her.

Additionally, Sanchez confirmed the allegations against Lizzo.

“I was apart of this documentary with @yagurlsophia! This is all true… I had to vent to so many of my friends about it…”

Sanchez even went on to call her experience working with Lizzo a “nightmare.”

“…It was such a small crew and the experience of working with Lizzo was a nightmare.”

Social Media Reacts

Social media users quickly weighed in on the women’s alleged accounts of working with Lizzo in The Shade Room’s comment section. Many appeared to be shocked by the revealed experiences.

Instagram user @naomi.joyy wrote.

“I don’t want to believe this . The devil is a fat ass lie 😩 if it’s true this is extremely sad”

While user @chefgbelay added.

“Canceling Lizzo” wasn’t on my bingo card for 2023. Wow”
User @tynicolle reiterated the sentiment.
“Lizzo being dragged through the mud was not on my 2023 bingo card Oh my”
While others remarked on what seems to be the singer’s unfortunate “wakeup call.”
Instagram user @danielle_nekole wrote.
“Damn. It’s so sad when this has to be your wakeup call to treat people with respect.”
While @_chepkoech93_ added.
“This is what it means when they say it takes one person.”
However, some social media users insisted the allegations may be a part of a “smear” campaign against the singer.
Instagram user @sliymm wrote.
“They going hard, she spoke her mind to the wrong person. They tryna smear her bad”
While user @munjithegod added.
“I feel like this is all planned… idk if it’s all publicity stunt for her new stuff coming or if she’s trynna get dropped from her contract cause maybe she got a bad deal… idk sum seems off….”

More Details About The Lawsuit & Initial Reacts From A Plaintiff And Others

As The Shade Room previously reported, the sexual harassment and weight shaming lawsuit specifically cites Lizzo, her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc., and her dance captain Shirlene Quigley as defendants.

The plaintiffs, Arianna Davis, Crystal Williams, and Noelle Rodriguez, allege that Lizzo’s treatment of them as former dancers of hers goes “against everything Lizzo stands for publicly.”
“The stunning nature of how Lizzo and her management team treated their performers seems to go against everything Lizzo stands for publicly, while privately she weight-shames her dancers and demeans them in ways that are not only illegal but absolutely demoralizing.”
Additionally, the lawsuit accuses Lizzo of pressuring dancers to “take turns touching the nude performers,” as well as more explicit actions at an afterparty at an Amsterdam strip club.
“Plaintiffs were aghast with how little regard Lizzo showed for the bodily autonomy of her employees and those around her, especially in the presence of many people whom she employed.”

After news of the lawsuit became public, plaintiff Arianna Davis shared a few additional words. Meanwhile, Lizzo’s former creative director, Courtney Hollinquest, also seemed the confirm the lawsuit’s accusations.

“For clarification, I’m not apart of the lawsuit,” she explained. “But this was very much my experience in my time there…”
