At the top of 2023, Alexis Skyy started a new chapter in her public persona.

In February, she revealed she had privately given her life to God. A little over a month later, she issued a public apology to Ari Fletcher, Jayda Cheaves, Akbar V, Blac Chyna, and Masika Kalysha for her role in past beef with each of them.

Now, in an exclusive conversation with The Shade Room’s Editor, Cassandra Santiago, Alexis Skyy said she’s in phase two of her betterment journey.

“I think this is phase two of my journey. The beginning was all about finding my purpose, finding who Alexis was, just finding my niche. I had to figure out what I really wanted to do with myself. Now I’m entering my soft girl era. Getting myself together, I just turned 29. I’ve always been a woman, but I’m entering womanhood forreal. My priorities matter.”

This year, she decided that a medical spa was next on her entrepreneurial journey. As someone who enjoys paying for beauty and skincare services, she figured she’d be passionate about providing them, too.

“…when I was on my journey, I was really trying to figure out what is it that I really enjoy doing, and I’m like I always get stuff done daily. So, I didn’t want to enter something that I wouldn’t have a passion for….What do I like, I like skin products. I spend a lot of money on expensive products. So I instantly spa and then brows, so it kind of just came to me.”

She started acting on this new dream in the last five months. The last time Alexis owned a spa was almost a decade ago. This time, she’s kickstarting this entrepreneurial venture by taking classes. Her eventual goal is to become an instructor.

Also, as an owner, Alexis Skyy wants the personal certification to speak on her business from the product angle.

“The whole goal is for me to become an instructor with everything I’ve got going on. Like I said, I’m pretty hands-on with the business, but I don’t see myself just working full-time with it. I’ll take clients here and there, and I wanna be able to teach people after.”

But going from the head honcho to the student can have its challenges. Still, Skyy says it adds to your ability to lead.

“It’s a little uncomfortable but you have to be uncomfortable to become comfortable. I think it’s better this way, cause just being the owner, sometimes owners don’t know what’s going on in the business and that’s why things fail. It’s super important to know,” Skyy said. “It doesn’t mean that I’m not a boss. I just feel that I’ll be able to be a boss and still be hands on. It’s a process, it’s not going to happen overnight.”

Alexis Skyy Partners With Esthetician School To Amplify Scholarship For Single Mom

Skyy is enrolled in esthetician classes at Lotus Skin Institute. Weeks before starting coursework on Sept. 20, she partnered with the school to amplify a tuition scholarship for a single mother seeking certification.

Taylor Groove, 30, won the scholarship in late August and spoke to The Shade Room about her gratitude to Skyy for using her platform to boost the school’s effort.

She’s a single mother of a seven-year-old son who was looking for ways to expand her beauty business after previous classes didn’t pan out. It was on the former reality star’s page that Groove’s co-worker saw the scholarship video and sent it over to her. Thankfully, she has a “really good support system” to help her pursue this dream.

The scholarship is set to fund her 1000-hour esthetician program tuition, books, and fees starting this month. When she learned she had won, she was at the barbershop for her son’s haircut.

“I applied, not thinking I was going to get it, but I just knew it wouldn’t hurt just to apply cause I mean I did follow all the requirements,” Groove. “And I am a single mom and I’ve really been trying to figure out like how am I gonna get myself off the ground and back on. So I applied and I got it, I was so shocked.”

Editor’s Note: Lotus Skin Institute has an open scholarship application that can be found at this link. Alexis has again partnered with the school to offer a discount code on the application process. Special circumstances apply, see all related instructions. The deadline is Sept. 30, and Lotus will announce the winner on Oct. 2. The Shade Room has not sponsored this scholarship in any way and cannot provide any advice, references, or updates on the submission process or selection updates. Alexis Skyy On Finding Balance In Single Motherhood

Using her massive platform — 5.6 million on Instagram alone — for dreams and not drama isn’t the only lifestyle change Skyy has made. She’s living in Atlanta again after deciding to relocate from New York nearly four months ago. Though she was born in Long Island, the southern city feels like “home” to her.

“I’ve been here for ten years on and off. No matter where I go in the world, I end up back here. I don’t know what it is, this place just has my heart. I feel like Atlanta is more like a hub, it’s easy to survice here,” Skyy said. “Like if you can’t make it in ATL. you can’t make it anywhere.”

When we spoke via Zoom in late August, Alexis was parked outsiof her daughter’s school, dressed in a casual t-shirt and leggings. She tells TSR she sometimes feels “like [she’s] an octopus.”

“I’m here, I’m here, I’m here. I’m like trying to do everything and I’m one person,” Skyy said.

So her goal, at that time, was to establish a firm foundation in Atlanta, especially now that she has her daughter Alaiya Grace, 5, full-time. Alaiya was born in Atlanta, but she’s lived in New York with Alexis and her grandmother for most of the last five years.

Though Skyy’s mother and other family live in Georgia, everyone “has their own life,” she said. This means school enrollment, hiring an experienced nanny, and securing specialized doctors for Alayia’s past diagnosis with hydrocephalus and ongoing health monitoring falls on the 29-year-old’s shoulders.

Alaiya’s father, Brandon Medford, is allegedly not involved in her day-to-day life. But for Alexis, being a mother is about “figuring it out.”

“When she was younger, it was easier because she wasn’t requiring as much. Now, it’s a lot. She wants to be everywhere I’m at. She’s hip to my hip. She has her tantrums. It’s just harder. She’s just attached, so she has separation anxiety. It’s been a bit difficult, but that’s my baby though.”

She added:

“…now she has me like seven days a week. I think she’s happier. She’s going through that attached stage where she just wants to be with me. It doesn’t matter if I’m taking a shower, she wants to shower with me. If I’m using the bathroom, she wants to use the bathroom. Everything is I wanna do what you’re doing.”`

Skyy describes her daughter as “five kids in one,” and while that can be “overwhelming,” the single mother wants to prioritize balance. When we speak, she says finding balance was difficult for her without an established village to lean on. From sun up to sun down, it’s mainly about Alaiya Grace.

“Right now, I haven’t. I barely even get sleep…she goes to bed at 8 every night, so from 8, that’s my time to take a shower, unwind, and just have some me time…Her school hours, she literally gets out of school like 2:45/ 3 o’clock. So it’s not enough time in the day, by the time I drop her off, I’m back picking her up. So I try to find little time to go get my nails done, find little time for myself.”

When asked if she struggles with allowing someone else to care for Alaiya, such as school officials or a nanny, the mother said no, adding that she enjoys her time off.

“I think that’s the most important thing, having balance. Postpartum is real, real,” Skyy said, admitting that she experienced it at some point. “You just gotta have time for yourself ’cause you can go crazy for real.”

She keeps her self-care routines simple most days, from enjoying the fresh air on her balcony to having a glass of wine or a hookah session.

Alexis Talks Living & Dating In Private

In the next year, she hopes to get married and open her medspa in Atlanta. But she’s tight-lipped about who might be giving her a ring. Privacy in love is a lesson she’s learned and practicing.

“I don’t want to be seen with anybody on the internet again, unless we’re married. No more, oh my boyfriend phases. When my husband arrives then…I probably won’t even show his face. I just want to protect my peace, my aura. Yes, I’m casually dating and stuff.”

And for those wondering, Skyy says she’s no longer dating “industry people.”  In the last few minutes of her talk, the boss babe shared some advice about living a private life in public.

“I just think that be the author of your story, like control the narrative. What you put out there is what you’re going to receive. I post certain things, I gotta expect what’s gonna come with it. You can’t post something then get upset when you’re getting attacked, cause I chose to post this. So, now, once I learned the power of privacy, I control my story. If I want people to know, imma post it, if I don’t you’ll never know or I might post the hands. You’ll never where I’m at. I’m just enjoying my peace and I just choose peace over this social media stuff.”
