Here’s What We Know About Tory Lanez’s 10-Year Sentence In State Prison
As The Shade Room previously reported, Tory Lanez was transferred to North Kern State Prison in Delano, California, on September 19. The facility reportedly doubles as a “reception center” and “medium to minimum custody facility.”
PrisonPro reports that North Kern State Prison is responsible for “diagnosing and classifying” incoming inmates by examining their “mental and physical health.” The process can reportedly take up to 90 days, and then inmates can be moved to a “more permanent” facility. Once moved, the new facility can “better” suit an inmate’s “rehabilitation needs.”
According to reports from The Messenger and legal reporter Meghann Cuniff, Lanez is expected to be detained at North Kern State Prison for three to six months. Then, he will reportedly be transferred to a more “long-term” facility to serve the rest of his sentence.
Cuniff adds that although Lanez had received a 10-year sentence from Judge David Herriford, he has presumably been credited with over 353 days served, shortening his time in prison.
According to a recent report from TMZ, Lanez hopes to make the most of his time in prison and would like to be housed with the general population. Additionally, the outlet reports that the rapper would like “access to more programs and resources.”
Furthermore, the outlet reports that Lanez is not concerned for his safety. Meanwhile, the rapper’s legal team will continue to work on his behalf to have his sentencing appealed.
As The Shade Room previously reported, the rapper’s notice of appeal was filed on August 10. However, the proceedings concerning Lanez’s appeal may not begin until 2024.
Judge David Herriford has remained confident in his sentencing of Tory, as the rapper maintains his innocence regarding his conviction.
