More Details About The Resurfaced Clip Of Diddy

On Wednesday, May 22, a user on X, formerly known as Twitter, @itsavibe, posted a clip of Diddy’s 2009 appearance on ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’  At this time, the exact date Diddy appeared on the show remains unclear. However, NBC Washington initially reported on Diddy’s sitdown with DeGeneres on March 11, 2009.

Complex adds that Diddy’s conversation with DeGeneres began with her asking the mogul about Chris Brown being at his home. According to PEOPLE, earlier that year, in February, Brown made headlines after assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna. A few weeks later, ABC News reported that both stars were spotted at Diddy’s mansion in Miami, Florida.

“You clearly have a lot of people going, ‘Why would you do that?’ Why would you give Chris, a guy who hit a girl, and he’s jet-skiing around… I don’t understand,” DeGeneres told Diddy.

In response, Diddy explained that he doesn’t cast stones and would always look out for a friend.

“I know both of them, and it’s my house, and I’m allowed to give my house to whoever I want to give my house to…” he explained. “Number two is that I’m the type of person that… I don’t cast a stone or cast a judgment on anybody… if a friend asks me for a favor, I’m going to be there for a favor as long as I know that the energy of the favor is positive for two people to sit down and talk about a situation that they’re in.”

Diddy’s response appeared to confirm Brown possibly used his space for efforts to reconcile with Rihanna. In turn, DeGeneres explained that she wouldn’t want any woman to feel that they have to go back to a situation of abuse.

“I think you are coming from a place of a friendship, and of kindness and support… [But] it’s just hard for me… I don’t want any girl out there thinking it’s okay to go back to a guy who hit her… and I don’t want to put you in that ’cause it’s not you,” DeGeneres told Diddy.

In response, Diddy told the host she was putting him “in it.” Additionally, he explained that he didn’t believe violence was correct in any instance. However, “relationships get ugly.”

“I don’t think that it’s right for anybody to hit anybody, at the end of the day… [but] I think we all have to be honest with ourselves as adults and people who’ve been in relationships,” he said. “We know sometimes that those relationships get ugly, and sometimes it doesn’t come out into the forefront the way this one has come out, and there’s a lot of stones being thrown, and we don’t know exactly what’s going on. These are two young individuals. We need to pray for them, and we need to give support…”

Diddy explained that no one but Rihanna and Brown were present when the assault happened. Therefore, everyone should lend “support” and “prayers” rather than judgment.

Social media users initially reacted to the resurfaced clip of Diddy in the X user’s comment section.

“It’s crazy that they’re discussing violence against women, and Diddy’s wants to dance after is disturbing…” another user added.

“When you look at now it hits different,” a third user remarked.

Additionally, reactions to the clip also made their way around the platform.

Here’s Why The Resurfaced Clip Has Sparked Thoughts

Diddy sharing his perspective on domestic violence and reconciliation sparked reactions on social media due to recent public events in the music mogul’s life. As The Shade Room previously reported, on Friday, May 17, the 54-year-old made headlines after footage surfaced of him assaulting his ex-girlfriend Cassie in 2016.

In the clip, the pair were at the InterContinental Hotel in Century City, Los Angeles, and Diddy was seen grabbing, kicking, and throwing glass vases at Cassie.

A few days later, Diddy issued a video statement in response to the resurfaced footage, per The Shade Room. The father of seven explained that he had hit “rock bottom” around the time of the incident and called his actions “inexcusable.”

To date, the music mogul’s apology has prompted many reactions from social media users and fans, per The Shade Room. Many believe he only apologized for the incident because he got “caught.”

Additionally, the viral footage has prompted some of those close to Diddy to publicly distance themselves, while those who previously worked closely with him share more about behavior of his they’ve allegedly witnessed.

The footage has even prompted one of the mothers of Diddy’s children to speak about her “own trauma,” while Cassie has recently broken her silence to thank fans for their support.
