More Details On The Indiana Father, David Schonabaum’s, Conviction & Charges

According to 14News, David was found guilty of three counts of child neglect on Wednesday, September 11. One of the charges was reportedly made on behalf of the conditions he allegedly subjected his 6-month-old son to. Meanwhile, the two other charges were reportedly made for “two stepchildren” who were also living inside his home in September 2023.

Per the outlet, prosecutors reportedly argued that David allowed his home to become so “unclean, unsanitary,” and “rat-infested” that it “eventually led to tragedy.”

David’s trial reportedly lasted three days.

Here’s How The 6-Month-Old Son Allegedly Sustained Over 50 Rat Bites

According to a 14News report published on September 21, 2023, David Schonabaum was arrested along with two other adults named Angel Schonabaum and Delaina Thurman. At the time, David reported finding his six-month-old son “covered in blood.”

After being taken to a hospital, the infant was determined to have “more than 50” rate bites “to his forehead, cheek, nose, thigh, foot, and toes.” Additionally, doctors noticed that the baby’s “fingers had parts missing, with exposed bones.”

“The victim in this case was a 6-month-old baby who suffered horrific rat bites to his entire body while lying in a bassinet in his home,” Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers reportedly stated, per Law & Crime. “When paramedics and police arrived, the infant was laying in his crib in a pool of blood, and the bites were so bad on his body — including his face, mouth, and extremities — that they left bone showing on one hand, and he is now permanently disfigured.”

Per 14News, the infant reportedly also needed a blood transfusion.

In addition to being infested with rats, the Schonabaum home was reportedly full of clutter and trash.

“It’s really hard to see that, and sometimes it’s really hard to maintain composure and be professional,” Sergeant Anna Gray of Evansville Police reportedly stated at the time.

According to KPLC 7, David’s sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, at 8:30 a.m. Law & Crime adds that Angel Schonabaum will go to trial later this month. Furthermore, Delaina Thurman has entered a guilty plea and is serving a suspended two-year prison sentence.

A Father In Rexas Was Recently Accused Of Doing THIS To His Infant Daughter

As The Shade Room previously reported, another father recently made headlines for their alleged actions against their infant. In August, a father in Texas named Edgar James Bridgemon was arrested and charged with attempted capital murder.

Bridgemon allegedly forced his 4-month-old daughter to drink gasoline.

According to authorities, Bridgemon had the “intention of ending the child’s life.”
