Here’s Why The Boyd Funeral Home Of Camden Is Accused Of Putting The Wrong Corpse In A Casket

According to NJ.com, an 81-year-old husband and father passed away on February 11, 2023. Subsequently, his family arranged for Boyd Funeral Home of Camden to host his viewing and cremation.

However, on February 17, the man’s family arrived at the funeral to check on arrangements. They reportedly discovered another corpse in their loved one’s casket. Additionally, their visit occurred the day before their loved one’s service was scheduled to be held.

“[Family members]… became immediately distressed and angered when they saw another unrecognizable corpse dressed in (his) clothes and belongings,” the family lawsuit, which was reportedly filed on September 5, states, per NJ.com.

Furthermore, during the visit, an employee of the funeral home showed the family texts from the company’s director. They reportedly showed the official insisting that the body in the casket was correct. At the time, a makeup artist also allegedly tried to convince the family that the body in the casket was that of their loved one.

On the following day, the family reportedly returned to the funeral home to find the correct body inside the casket. Despite this, the group notes that the previous ordeal caused them “significant emotional distress.”

Per NJ.com, the family is reportedly accusing the Body Funeral Home of Camden of “negligent infliction of emotional distress” and “mishandling of human remains.”

To note, PEOPLE reports that the family is seeking a trial by jury and “compensatory and punitive damages.” Additionally, the outlet notes that the family’s loved one was a man named Addison Jenkins. However, NJ.com does not note the man’s identity.

Two Women Made Headlines After Allegedly Taking Off With A Corpse Earlier This Year

In March, two women made headlines for their alleged actions involving a corpse. As The Shade Room previously reported, Karen Casbohm and Loreen Bea Feralo were accused of misusing the corpse of an 80-year-old man named Douglas Layman.

Layman reportedly passed away while living with the two women. Subsequently, they allegedly propped his body into a car and drove to his bank’s drive-thru window. While there, the pair allegedly placed the corpse in view of the bank tellers and withdrew $900 from the man’s account.

Afterward, they allegedly dropped his body off at a hospital and were later taken into custody and charged.
