Wendy Williams‘ lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, is clearing the air after the TV icon called her conservatorship “a prison.” Kaplan cast doubt on the energy Wendy gave while speaking on ‘The Breakfast Club’ on Wednesday. Hours after the on-air interview, Kaplan explained her understanding of Wendy’s health to TMZ.

As previously reported, Williams broke down during a phone call on Wednesday while describing her isolated living situation. She and her niece Alex—who was also on the call—repeatedly insisted that Wendy is not “permanently incapacitated.” Those are the words the star’s guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, used in November to describe her health.
Wendy Williams’ Lawyer Says THIS About Her Health
In her comments to TMZ, Roberta Kaplan suggested fans shouldn’t be fooled by how Williams sounded on ‘TBC.’ She clarified that the star’s dementia diagnosis stands, meaning that her day-to-day energy doesn’t necessarily look the same. Kaplan said the degenerative nature of dementia is the reason the court believes Wendy needs lifelong care and guardianship. As for the guardian, Sabrina, TMZ reports that the terms of the conservatorship prevent her from speaking out.
Williams Explains “Emotional Abuse” Of Conservatorship
Unlike Wendy Williams’ lawyer, the TV icon, her niece, and Charlamagne Tha God rejected the idea that Wendy is cognitively impaired. Instead, Williams claimed she’s living in a luxury prison guarded by key-locked elevators and nursemaids giving her up to seven pills daily. Her apartment consists of a bed, chair, TV that she bought, and a bathroom. When she’s not watching the TV or listening to the radio, Wendy said she looks out her ONE window.
“I am definitely isolated. And to talk to these people, who live here, that is not my cup of tea. They’re good people, but I keep the door closed. I watch TV, I listen to radio, and I watch the window and I sit here as my life goes by. You know what I’m saying?”
Wendy Williams also said that the system she’s “trapped” in is “broken” and has “falsified a lot.” Her desire is to be in her family’s care in Miami, especially next month for her father’s 94th birthday. However, Wendy implied the final decision is in the hands of her guardian Sabrina. Additionally, Williams expressed fear that Sabrina could retaliate for her transparency in the interview by taking away her limited phone privileges or blocking her from traveling to see her dad. She called the conservatorship a form of “emotional abuse.”
Earlier this month was the first time fans saw Wendy Williams in a hot lil’ minute. The guardian seemingly allowed her to attend her only son’s college graduation.
