Details On Maryland Hairstylist’s Charges

For context, FOX5DC reports that Jayla Cunningham says the 15-year-old allegedly tried to leave the salon without paying for a $150 service, which included hair extensions. The video footage Cunningham allegedly posted on social media shows her dragging the teen by her hoodie before purportedly cutting the extensions out of the girl’s hair with a pair of scissors.

In the video, Cunningham could reportedly be heard saying, “Sit right here until somebody sends it. I”m not f***** playing. You just tried to f***** run. You lucky I ain’t beat the s*** out you.”

Jayla Cunningham told FOX5DC that she dragged the girl because the teen insisted on leaving without paying. She explained that she felt if she didn’t do that, she wouldn’t have been paid.

“I dragged her by her hood back into the salon until I could get paid or, you know, until the police come or until, you know, she let me take out the service, because it’s like she literally ran outside, like she was about to be gone. I feel like if I didn’t do that, she would have been gone and I would have just never been paid,” Cunningham said.

Jayla reportedly faces a second-degree assault charge and must appear in court on April 18 after receiving a summons.

The Teen Client’s Mother Addresses The Incident

The teen girl’s mother spoke about what happened with Jayla Cunningham. She told FOX5DC that her daughter is “traumatized” from the situation and isn’t doing well after the incident. The mother has since filed a police report against Cunningham. She also claimed her daughter accidentally sent the money to the wrong CashApp account while trying to figure out the best way to pay Cunningham.

The teen’s family has hired Jackson and Associates law firm to represent her. Attorney De’Aja Thompson believes Cunningham had no right to attack the girl over a simple mistake.

“The video is horrendous. It’s a 15-year-old girl. We’re talking about someone’s child here — a child who is being dragged across a salon floor by her jacket for over something as simple as a mistake,” Attorney Thompson said.
