On the morning of Thursday, April 24, Deadline published a report asserting that Sharpe would “almost certainly not be returning to ESPN’s ‘First Take’ next week.” Furthermore, the report asserted that the network intends to “further investigate” Zuniga’s claims against Sharpe.
As of Thursday afternoon, Sharpe appears to have confirmed the network’s apparent decision with his own statement. Furthermore, the 56-year-old took to his social media to reiterate that his relationship with Zuniga was “consensual.” However, he noted that he is “electing to step aside temporarily” from his duties at ESPN.
“I will be devoting this time to my family, and responding and dealing with these false and disruptive allegations set against me. I plan to return to ESPN at the start of the NFL preseason,” Sharpe wrote.
Before concluding, Sharpe explained that he’s appreciative of the “overwhelming and ongoing support” from the public and his loved ones.
Furthermore, “minutes” after Sharpe’s statement was shared, a spokesperson of ESPN reportedly told Deadline, “This is a serious situation, and we agree with Shannon’s decision to step away.”

Furthermore, the suit was filed by “Jane Doe,” reportedly 30 years Sharpe’s junior. In the suit, Doe alleged she and Sharpe had a “rocky consensual” relationship for almost two years. However, during that time, she was assaulted, sexually assaulted, battered, and emotionally distressed by Sharpe.
In response, Sharpe’s legal team denied the allegations, per The Shade Room. Additionally, they released NSFW texts allegedly sent from Zuniga to Sharpe.

By April 22, audio was released, allegedly of Sharpe threatening to choke Zuniga, per The Shade Room. The audio prompted Share to share his own statement, calling Zuniga’s actions and claims a “shakedown.”
Since then, Zuniga has released alleged texts of her confronting Sharpe for alleged sexual assault. Additionally, multiple celebrities have weighed in on the allegations as Sharpe has once again trended online for a resurfaced clip of him speaking suggestively about an OnlyFans model.
