Following its approval in the Florida House earlier this month, state Governor Ron DeSantis officially signed the highly controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill into law as he was surrounded by elementary school children. Despite the intense backlash and whirlwind of controversy surrounding the bill, Ron DeSantis wasted little time making it an official state law.
Earlier today, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis did what many expected and formally signed a bill into law that bans all instruction on sexual orientation and gender identity in local elementary schools in kindergarten through third grade. The controversial law has been dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill and critics throughout the U.S. have slammed the bill for its highly discriminatory practices against those within the LGBTQ+ community.

Speaking about his decision to sign the bill into law, Ron DeSantis said “We will make sure that parents can send their kids to school to get an education, not an indoctrination.” DeSantis signed the bill while at the Classical Preparatory School in Spring Hill, Florida, while surrounded by dozens of young children who he gifted the pens he signed the bill with.
As we previously reported, the “Don’t Say Gay” bill is broken down as follows, it states that, “Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students by state standards.”
However, parents have rights regarding the bill, and reports show they could sue FL districts over violations.
