Here’s How Lloyd Surprised Ashanti During Her Final Performance
According to Entertainment Tonight, Ashanti recently took the stage at the Tacos & Tequila Festival in Kansas City, Kansas. The festival’s official website notes that the event occurred on Saturday, June 1.
In footage reportedly captured by Instagram user @mjmblessed, Ashanti is seen getting ready to sing her and Lloyd’s 2004 single, ‘Southside.’ However, as she holds the mic to her face, the DJ can be heard saying he has “something special.”
Appearing confused, Ashanti turns her head and shares a question.
“Wait, what happened?” she said.
Then, another voice begins singing as Ashanti turns to look behind her.
The singer then jumps in surprise as Lloyd joins her on stage and sings his verse in the song. Before concluding the performance, Lloyd let the concertgoers know that the event would be Ashanti’s “last concert” for a “long time” due to her upcoming maternity leave.
“I did not want to miss this show because I’m gonna miss you so much on the road,” Lloyd told Ashanti. “Everybody out here knows that you changed my life, and I love you so much, and I’m praying for you, and I hope you have a safe delivery, Bonnie.”

”Lloyd Previously Surprised The Expecting Mother
This isn’t the first time Lloyd has surprised his fellow singer during her journey into motherhood. As The Shade Room previously, the pair made headlines after they took the stage at the Met Philadelphia on May 19.
At the time, the pair performed their single ‘Southside’ as Lloyd serenaded Ashanti’s baby bump. Additionally, the singer even penned a sweet message to Ashanti’s unborn child after the performance via social media.
“Dear Baby Haynes, you are surrounded by love, by good energy, and by ppl who have prayed for your piece of mind way before you were born,” he wrote at the time. “One day I will tell you of the times I got to sing to you while still in your mothers belly, of how your mommy changed my life, and of how your dad was there for me when I needed a little love and guidance.”
As The Shade Room previously reported, Ashanti revealed that she’s expecting her first child with her fiancé Nelly on April 17. The couple has yet to publicly share whether they’re expecting a baby girl or boy. However, the singer did recently share how she celebrated her first Mother’s Day.
The Shade Room is wishing Ashanti a safe and healthy delivery as she prepares to welcome her and Nelly’s little one!
